Strategic analysis of crime trends is essential to support the development and evaluation of law enforcement policies and prevention strategies in Iraq. To assist the Iraqi Ministry of Interior (MoI) in further strengthening their analytical capabilities, EUAM’s Visting Expert conducted a specialised workshop on the analysis of crime patterns over time.
The workshop was organised at the request of the MoI’s Planning and Follow-Up Directorate and specifically tailored for a selected group of analysts of the MoI. It is a follow-up to the earlier work of the Visting Expert in 2024, highlighting the importance of using both police recorded crime data and survey data to inform strategic decision-making in the security sector.
Commenting on the importance of the workshop, the Visiting Expert stated: “Without the capability to effectively use data for strategic planning, organisations are likely to make decisions based on intuition rather than evidence.”
