Workshop on strategic planning and capacity building aims to enhance MoI effectiveness

EUAM Iraq in conjunction with the Ministry of Interior’s (MoI) Director General for Planning held a five-day Strategic Planning, Capacity Building and Implementation Workshop from 22 to 26 January 2023. 

This was the last in a series of advisory workshops jointly convened with the Mission and represented the most ambitious capacity building venture EUAM Iraq has embarked on to date in terms of scope and eventual impact, contributing to the MoI becoming more effective, more responsive, more accountable, and more transparent.

The workshop was focusing on the systematic execution and operationalisation of strategic priorities in the context of the MoI 5 Year Strategic Plan 2019-2023 and the 2023 Annual Plan, concentrating on the cycle of strategic assessment, planning, strategy, implementation, monitoring and review.

The issues addressed included resourcing, fiscal and budgetary dimensions of planning and implementation along with accountability, monitoring, evaluation, and governance. 

The workshop drew extensive and diverse participation from the senior echelons of the Ministry with 23 senior officers are participating, demonstrative of the Ministry’s commitment to both effective planning and strategic level engagement with the Mission.

The Director General  for Planning, Major General Faris, expressed his gratitude for the Mission’s enterprise: 

“The strategic planning agenda is of critical importance to the Ministry of Interior. I wish to thank EUAM Iraq for its continued commitment and support in working with us to facilitate this joint venture which will enhance vital planning capabilities and long-term sustainability”. 

The event was facilitated at the Ministry of Interior - EUAM Iraq Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) in Baghdad.
