EUAM Iraq organised a study visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France, bringing together key counterparts from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior to further support international law enforcement cooperation and information exchange.
During the visit, the Iraqi delegation was introduced to INTERPOL’s core institutional capabilities and the support it provides in addressing complex and cross-border security challenges.
The programme included briefings and exchanges with INTERPOL’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate, Organised and Emerging Crime Directorate, and Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre. Interactive discussions on INTERPOL’s operational activities, analytical support, and mechanisms for secure information exchange with Iraq rounded up the visit.
These exchanges allowed Iraqi counterparts to explore how INTERPOL tools, channels, and expertise can support Iraqi efforts to prevent, investigate and respond to terrorism, organised crime, financial crime, narcotics-related crime and other transnational threats.
The Iraqi delegation included commanders and officers from the Directorate of International Criminal Police INTERPOL, the Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Directorate, the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, the Falcons Security Cell, the Dignitary Protection Directorate, and the International Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.
This study trip is part of EUAM Iraq’s commitment to supporting Iraqi institutions in enhancing their capacity for international law enforcement cooperation, improving information exchange, and strengthening joint responses to security issues that cross borders.
