EUAM Iraq Supports Iraq’s National Security Strategy Through Strategic Exchanges in Italy
15-12-2025

Reflecting the Mission’s ongoing support to strengthening national security governance, EUAM Iraq, in partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser, is facilitating a high-level strategic study visit for the Iraqi National Security Strategy Policy Group to Rome and Bologna.
The programme, hosted by the Istituto Affari Internazionali, the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies Europe, and the University of Trento School of International Studies, aims to reinforce strategic foresight, institutional resilience, and effective implementation of Iraq’s National Security Strategy.

Discussions with prominent experts, including Professor Nathalie Tocci, will deepen analytical perspectives on governance and strategic planning, drawing on comparative lessons from the EU Global Strategy and its applicability to Iraq’s security landscape.
Engagements with leading scholars such as Professor Paolo Foradori will further expand the agenda to address cyber security and CBRN-related risks within a comprehensive national-security framework.
The visit also features an exchange with Professor Andrea Rigoni, Advisor to the Italian Prime Minister on Digital Security, focusing on Italy’s National Cybersecurity Strategy and digital security architecture to support Iraq in enhancing resilience and implementation design.
By connecting Iraqi officials with European policy institutions and specialised centres, this programme complements EUAM Iraq’s ongoing support to the National Security Strategy agenda and reinforces whole-of-government cooperation in strengthening security governance and institutional effectiveness.
