This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda, established by UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
In Iraq, EUAM has been supporting security sector reform by promoting the role of women as leaders and professionals. A key initiative is the Female Leadership Development Programme, which brings together senior and emerging women from the Ministry of Interior. Through workshops, coaching and peer-to-peer mentoring, the programme is building a sustainable network that empowers women to contribute to reform and the rule of law. As one participant expressed: “It is not just a programme, it is a movement.”
EUAM Iraq’s mandate emphasises meaningful female leadership in security institutions as a driver of reform. The Mission supports both current women leaders and the preparation of future ones, ensuring their contribution strengthens Iraq’s peace, security and resilience.
On this anniversary, EUAM Iraq reaffirms its commitment to working with Iraqi counterparts to advance women’s leadership as a core element of sustainable security sector reform and a stable future.
