As Iraq is reviewing its counter-terrorism policies in line with international human rights standards, EUAM Iraq is supporting the EU-funded CT PHARE programme, implemented by the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ).

To this end, a roundtable with civil society representatives from across Iraq was organised to collect their recommendations for the inclusion of human rights aspects into the new strategy.

A strategy which respects the rights of citizens will increase the population’s trust in government institutions. Civil society organisations live through experiences on the ground and can identify areas for improvement to be considered in the upcoming development of the national strategy.
