At the request of the Civil Defense Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, EUAM Iraq delivered a pilot workshop on Civil Defense. Iraqi senior officers dealing with police-rescue cooperation obtained insights in European systems, standards, strategies, and procedures to improve their capacities to ensure the safety and well-being of the population during emergencies and disasters.
In exceptional situations such as serious traffic accidents, serious criminal offences and explosions, these command level officers make important decisions and actions and prepare preventive measures and emergency plans. In their role as commanders, they lead operations in which both police and civil defence units are involved. Under their authority, firefighters, civil protection coordinators and paramedics work to mitigate the effects of major incidents.
The tailor-made workshop focused on their main duties such as emergency response, search and rescue, medical assistance, firefighting, evacuation and shelter management but also public awareness and coordination with other agencies as well as infrastructure protection.
