On 24 May 2023, EUAM Iraq Head of Mission Mr Anders Wiberg briefed the European Union Member States at the meeting of the Committee for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management (CivCom) in Brussels on the Mission's progress in supporting the Government of Iraq's national security sector reform (SSR) agenda.

Mr Wiberg outlined the Mission’s continued progress and underscored the strength of its constructive partnership with key Iraqi interlocutors, the EU Delegation to Iraq, as well as Member States present in Baghdad and international partners.

Key developments and achievements in several important policy areas were highlighted.

Mr Wiberg indicated that operationalisation of the EU Integrated Approach including close cooperation with Member States, the EU Commission as well as Justice and Home Affairs agencies was fundamental and continued to underpin efforts to building institutional resilience and assure sustainability.

Mr Wiberg underscored the Mission's commitment to consolidating progress made to date to ensure the sustainability of the Mission's interventions as well as efforts to further intensify enabling support and maintain operational responsiveness.

Mr Wiberg also highlighted that the Mission remains resolutely focused on its mandate objectives and implementation centred on enabling the process of nationally led, owned, and delivered reform.
